Instructions for Completing the Essay:
1. Read the Essay Assignment Instructions and Grading Rubric before starting your essay.
2. Answer ONE (1) of the following questions in an essay:
What were the chief features of the polis, or city-state, and how did the city-states of Athens and Sparta differ?
What did the Greeks mean by democracy, and in what ways was the Athenian political system a democracy?
What characteristics of Christianity enabled it to grow and ultimately to triumph as the official religion of the Roman Empire?
If by mistake you answer more than one essay question, only the first essay will be read and graded.

3. Attach your essay as a file.
Key Reminders from the Grading Rubric:
1. Double space your essay.
2. Answer ALL of the essay question.
3. Follow the rules of grammar and spell words correctly.
4. Include sentences from the chapter to support what you are trying to say. Identify any sentences from the chapter with quotation marks (” “) at both ends of the sentence (ex. “The beginning of humans’ ability to grow or breed their food is called the Neolithic (food-producing) Revolution” (p. 10).
5. No more than 25% of your essay should be sentences from the chapter. Your essay should be mostly your own
